DIVORCES among the Muslims in Johor are almost 10 times more than those among other religious groups.
From 2004 to May 2009, 10,073 Muslim couples got divorced, compared with 1,754 among the non-Muslims.
Johor Women, Family and Community Development, Welfare and Health committee chairman Dr Robia Kosai said that numerous steps had been taken to deal with the matter.
The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry had initiated the pre-wedding Smartstart programme in Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mandarin and Tamil for couples who intended to get married and those who had been wed for less than five years.
